Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity Church Partnerships

Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian ministry answering the call of the gospel to respond to our neighbors in need. What better partners could we have than local churches?

How Churches Can Partner with Habitat for Humanity:

*Build a prayer network
*Establish a vision of transforming lives
*Maintain your focus in living out the gospel of Jesus Christ
*Building Fellowship relationships in the community
*Strengthen Family Support program with Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity;
this is ideal for an adult church group that wants to take an active role in the
profound change which occurs for a Habitat Partner Family as they transition
from inadequate housing situation into Habitat Home Ownership.
*Educate the community about the need of simple, decent and affordable housing

How Habitat for Humanity Can Partner with Churches:

*Help people see the spirit of God at work outside the four walls of the church
*Help people build the church. Habitat is a widely recognized and respected Christian
organization. A Habitat project can be just the spark that gets the people
excited about working in a Christian Community.
*Help a church fulfill its mission to minister to persons who are in need
*Attract new members and bring energy into a congregation
*Enable individuals to experience spiritual growth
*Be a means for identifying and developing leaders within the church

Opportunities for Churches to become involved:

*Make a multi-year commitment
*Fund and build (sponsor) a house
*Partial Financial Sponsorship
*Provide Prayer Support
*Service Trips inside and outside the United States
*Make a financial contribution
*Offer devotions at a work site
*Participate in an Apostles Build
*Hold a fundraiser

A Little Extra Grace
By Bethany Kuehne, VISTA Church Relations Volunteer

On a dusky Sunday evening, in the parking lot of a Lutheran church in a small town in Central Minnesota, two pastors helped me lug my own weight in presentation materials and equipment back out to my car. I was then struck with a sudden bolt of embarrassment—my car was really messy. These two gentlemen had helped me set up and run a very exciting meeting where we announced a project to several faith leaders of the community. Now, they were going to see the five extra coats, a shovel, random bottles of water, and smatterings of loose change and paper clips that lined my back seat. As I pushed out the door, I declared, “Okay, but you can’t judge me based on my car. It’s a disaster.” One looked at the other, laughed and said, “That’s okay, Bethany, we don’t judge. We’ll just say you need a little extra Grace.” With that we all irrupted into laughter and began to pack the car, mess and all.

As I drove home that day, I thought about the joy it had been to meet all of the men and women who were so eager to bring the excitement of their faith to Habitat. I have met hundreds of caring individuals since I began here in August who see Habitat as an opportunity to put their faith into action. From spaghetti dinners to prayer services to volunteering for a week on a build site, our partners in faith have joined us through this building season and even into the snow. As we look forward to this year’s builds throughout our service area, not only in St. Cloud, but also in Foley, Monticello, and finishing up in St. Joseph, I know there will be days when things will not be easy and plans may change. But on those days, I will remind myself to look for that little extra Grace.
