POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Director of Development, Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity

Responsible to: Executive Director

Directly supervises: Any and all assistants, associates, coordinators, secretaries, clerical workers, and volunteers associated with the office.

Summary of key duties & responsibilities: Accountable to the Executive Director, the Development Director will manage the daily operations of the development office, directly resulting in greater quality and quantity of relationships that yield significant annual increases in financial support for Habitat for Humanity

Key duties & responsibilities: Work closely with the Executive Director to:

1. Establish and achieve annual goals for the development function;

2. Communicate regularly, strategically, and effectively by way of listening, writing, telephone, e-mail, face-to-face, web, and various publications with all constituent groups;

3. Develop and sustain an effective marketing and public relations program as it relates to the Habitat mission and goals;

4. Manage, maintain, and steadily improve the organization’s constituent data – especially e-mail addresses and phone numbers – so as to achieve a high degree of accuracy and reliability in communication;

5. Establish, maintain, and steadily improve the quantity and quality of accurate records for constituent groups such as individuals, church members, Habitat alums and volunteers, affinity groups, foundations, organizations, businesses, and local community leaders that don’t yet exist in Habitat records;

6. Communicate regularly with, and work closely with various affinity groups so as to achieve high levels of participation in events and success in annual fund raising goals;

7. Design, conduct, and/or supervise fund raising events, annual fund appeals, special appeals, campaigns, and special projects that result in the achievement of goals;

8. Assist and support the Executive Director with the establishment and maintenance of an excellent working relationship with the Habitat Board of Directors and with local, regional, and national organizations that would result in the success of Habitat’s development function;

9. Assist and support the Executive Director with the design, management, and conduct of capital campaigns that result in the achievement of annual and long-term goals;

10. Assist and support the Executive Director with the design, management, and conduct of leadership gift solicitations that result in the achievement of annual and long-term goals;

11. Assist and support the Executive Director with the design, management, and conduct of an effective deferred giving program that results in the achievement of goals;

12. Participate in a variety of meetings, seminars, workshops, and task forces;

13. Maintain and enhance personal knowledge, skills, and expertise by regularly reading relevant professional journals, participating in local, regional, and national continuing education seminars, and by creating and maintaining an active network of professional colleagues.

14. Supervise Americorps Development VISTA Volunteer and oversee the work plan; supervise college interns on development projects.

Characteristic functions of the position:

Some travel is associated with this position;
Representation of the Habitat for Humanity organization, including all of its functions and beliefs is associated with this position;
A significant number of one-on-one meetings, demanding poise, confidence, integrity, discretion, and knowledge are associated with this position;
A significant number of evening and/or weekend work hours are associated with this position.

Qualities & Qualifications:

BA Degree or equivalent is the required minimum education;
Demonstrated achievement and success with fund raising;
Excellent listening, speaking, writing, and web-based communication skills;
Eagerly pursues new, enhanced, and expanded relationships via telephone and face-to-face;
Computer skills for Microsoft Office products and comprehensive database management; i.e., Blackbaud (Raiser’s Edge);
Practices discreet judgment and confidentiality;
Service-oriented in the Habitat tradition;
Motivated, goal oriented, self-directed, self-starter;
Uses a collaborative, team-oriented work style;
Recruits, trains, motivates, supervises, works with volunteers.
